NETWORK ENGINEER (CI Poly Required)

NorthHill Technology Resources has a need for a Network Engineer to support a Federal Program in Mclean, VA.  This is a direct-hire role with our client, a highly-respected firm in the Intelligence Community.  Due to the nature of the work, a TS/SCI Clearance with a current CI Polygraph is required.

The Network Engineer provides support to the program’s Network Architect to install, configure, operate, monitor and maintain the program’s network infrastructure and associated IT systems. Responsibilities also include implementing security measures in order to achieve Authority to Operate, optimizing network hardware performance, monitoring the network for potential issues, supporting incident and problem management and performing root cause analysis.  As the system grows over time, the Network Engineer will assist the Network Architect in designing and implementing the program’s network systems.  There is a likelihood for a travel to the data center on occasion but most work will be performed from the McLean VA area.

 

Details and Provider Responsibilities

The Network Engineer will support the Network Architect to design, install, configure, operate, monitor and maintain the program’s network devices, connectivity and associated IT systems. The Network Engineer will support achieving secure, stable, scalable, resilient network operations. The main focus will be on the LAN for the production and management/support systems, but this position may also provide support to external communications and circuits.  Specific activities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Support program Network Architect to design, install, configure, document, operate, monitor and maintain the network infrastructure
  2. Collaborate with the Network Architect to review and analyze system hardware and software and provide recommendations for improving and optimizing the program’s networks.
  3. Provide analysis of the data center network devices, such as routers, switches and firewalls in the context of mission application
  4. Participate in network design reviews and security testing for the customer’s networks.
  5. Supporting program security compliance by ensuring network security standards are followed and implemented correctly.
  6. Configuring network devices to include collaboration with security engineers to harden network infrastructure
  7. Prepare technical documentation and review applicable document/artifacts for completeness. Provide recommendations to improve.
  8. Monitor and coordinate monitoring activities for weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  9. Execute inventory audits of networking equipment in support of wider property management requirements.
  10. Troubleshooting, resolving and communicating networking issues to stakeholders inclusive of Customer PMO and Users.
  11. Maintain current knowledge and expertise in networking and security best practices.


Education & Experience Qualifications.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related fields. Work experience in relevant fields may be considered for equivalency.

5+ years of hands-on experience in a network support role or similar technical role/environment to include, but not limited to:

    • Spine-Leaf architecture built using EVPN-VXLAN framework
    • Routing protocols to include BGP and OSPF
    • Policy based routing, QoS and Access Control Lists
    • VLANs, VLAN Trunking, Port Channels, Spanning Tree

Experience with configuring and maintaining network devices.

Familiarity with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools.

Demonstrated experience in managing/implementing network security measures.

TS/SCI with CI Poly

Sec+ certification.


Desired Skills and Certifications.

Industry certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+ or equivalent.

Experience with various networking operating systems, such as Sonic and/or Cumulus.

Familiarity with Dell switches and/or NVIDIA Spectrum-X switches.

Basic knowledge or experience with Kubernetes, ansible, or other system languages or scripting. 

Experience with automated tools.
