Our client is seeking a System Safety Engineer to support the application of safety processes and methodologies to a large, complex, safety-critical system.
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience and be familiar with the system development and safety processes contained in SAE ARP4754A and ARP4761.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Identify and apply appropriate safety standards to system development processes and assessments of a safety critical system
• Verify and validate system safety requirements and their traceability to software and hardware
• Interface with project systems engineers and design engineers to prepare and review safety documentation and analyses, and report their status to project management
• Support development of system safety process documentation including, but not limited to, System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA) and System Safety Assessments (SSA)
• Support development of safety analyses including: Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), Common Cause Analyses (CCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA)
• Conduct Safety Risk Management (SRM) activities that include hazard identification, assessment, mitigation and tracking.
• Participate in the project’s System Safety Working Group by way of discussions and presentations with the project customer
REQUIRED:
• BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• Minimum of five (5) years (cumulative) of engineering experience working as a safety engineer within the aerospace, automotive, or related industries
• Demonstrated experience with SAE ARP4754A and SAE ARP4761 processes to include capturing system safety requirements and designing safety compliant systems
• Familiar with the application of systems engineering and software development processes to the design, development, integration, test, and verification of complex systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
DESIRED:
• Two (2) or more years of experience in systems engineering or software engineering
• MS degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• GNSS (GPS, Galileo) experience
• Experience with safety and reliability engineering of civil or military aircraft avionics, particularly navigation systems, or other safety-critical equipment
• Familiarity with RTCA DO-278A and DO-254 processes
• Knowledge of Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability principles, practices, and tools
