Job Description:
We are seeking a highly qualified Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) with extensive experience in the construction or general industry sector to join our team for a short-term project. The SSHO will be responsible for overseeing all safety and health aspects of construction projects, ensuring that all safety standards and protocols are adhered to, and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, including those outlined by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).  This project centers around an Electrical UPS system for the base.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards as outlined in the EM 385-1-1 30 Nov 14 1-14 (1) U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety Manual.
  • Implement, manage, and monitor safety programs and processes on-site, ensuring a hazard-free environment.
  • Ensure Electrical Lock out, Tag out, and PPE requirements are met.
  • Attend the pre-construction conference, pre-work meetings, and periodic in-progress meetings.
  • Conduct thorough hazard analyses and develop safety controls to mitigate risks on projects.
  • Oversee site safety for construction projects, ensuring workers and the job site comply with OSHA and USACE safety regulations.
  • Coordinate and conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and training programs.
  • Enforce all safety regulations, ensuring full compliance with local, state, and federal safety laws.
  • Communicate effectively in fluent English, both verbally and in writing, to report on safety performance, incidents, and compliance.
  • Attend the project site full-time whenever work is ongoing and workers are present.
Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 5 years of continuous safety experience in managing or supervising safety programs within the construction industry, or
    • A minimum of 5 years of continuous safety experience in the general industry, or
    • If the SSHO holds a Third-Party, Nationally Accredited SOH-related certification (ANSI or National Commission for Certifying Agencies - NCCA), only 4 years of experience is required.
  • Training:
    • Completion of the OSHA 30-hour training course with an instructor-signed OSHA 30 card within the last 10 years.
    • Completion of 8 hours of safety and health-related coursework annually, which may include activities like teaching, writing professional articles, or attending professional meetings.  
  • Certifications:
    • Current First Aid/CPR certification (Red Cross or equivalent), with a certification date within the last 2 years.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Previous experience with Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) projects is preferred but not required.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to pass a background check for clearance to military facilities. Secure clearance is not required but preferred.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Work Environment:
  • This is an on-site, full-time position for the six-week duration of the project. The SSHO must be present on-site during all active project work hours (the day typically starts at 7 a.m.), ensuring safety compliance and the well-being of all personnel.
